Indigenous engagement to help tribal communities understand and respond to New Mexico's medical psilocybin law. Status: In progress, Phase one

New Mexico's Medical Psilocybin Act opens a state pathway to psilocybin care. Its implementation reaches Native communities across the state, whose relationships with these medicines vary widely. For many, these medicines are new or unfamiliar. This two-phase initiative creates space for tribal communities to understand how the law works and to decide, on their own terms, whether and how it should serve them.

Phase one develops relationality and trust. Before any programming, it invests in genuine relationships with tribal communities and leaders, listening first and moving at the pace those relationships set. Phase two builds on that foundation with an education series, helping communities understand how the law works, what it means for tribal sovereignty, and the questions it raises for sacred-plant stewardship. It closes with a report returned to the tribal communities, written to inform their own understanding and decisions, so the knowledge gathered stays with the people it concerns.
